Deborah
Wagner Sproule, MFA UW-Madison, lives and
maintains her studio in Madison, Wisconsin. Deborah is co-curator and
project administrator of "STITCHED
MYTH". Deborah is dedicated to reasserting the
silenced voices (stitched and woven art forms) of her foremothers. She
notes that while most major art museums hold stitched and woven forms
in their archives the category of stitched and woven art forms continues
to be undervalued in exhibition of work and critical discussion of aesthetics
surrounding stitched and woven forms of art. In an act of silent subversion,
Deborah stitches small scale beaded statements that express a single
female voice (the shoe) in psychologically charged settings.
